Somaliland: VOSOMWO Intensifies Drive for Minority Clans Empowermen

Somalilandsun – Citizens of Somaliland from the so called minority clans are intent on staking a claim within various levels of political leadership in the country.

This was revealed by Voice of Somaliland Minority Women Organization-VOSOMWO during a voter registration awareness campaign among the Gaboye clan in Sahil region held in the port town of Berbera.

VOSOMWO chairperson Ms Faisa Abdilahi DiriyeAddressing participants among them Gaboye, Tumal and Yibir clans traditional leaders and ordinary community members the VOSOMWO chairperson Ms Faisa Abdilahi Diriye said that the objective of her organization’s current campaign is geared towards ensuring that minority clans get a share of decision making positions in the post March 2017 election administration.

“In order for us, the So called minority clans attaining this positions it is important that all of us that are of age register as voters” said Ms Faisa as she revealed that VOSOMWO is undertaking similar voter registration awareness campaigns among minority clans n all regions of Somaliland.

Calling for the assembled leadership to ensure that clan members register as voters in order to elect leaders of their choke come march 2017 elections the youthful human rights activist was categorical that without casting their votes for leaders of choice be it from their own or other clans but sympathetic to their plight the Gaboyes shall always remain nothing but minority clans in Somaliland.

Said “Let us fully stake claim for our share of decision making positions in the country thence help alleviate our community from the stigma associated with being a minority clan that is only good for menial jobs like haircutting, metal smiths and garbage collectors”

The assembled clan leadership was unanimous in its determination towards ensuring that the entire Gaboye community in Sahil region fully participates in the Somaliland electoral process by initially registering as voters for all those who meet set criteria.
