Somaliland: Regional Sports Tournament Brings Nation Together

HAREISA (Somalilandsun) – The anual regional sports tournament for 2013 is in its second day of competion.

The tournament that has teams from 13 regions was officialyl kicked-off by president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo at the Hargeisa stadium where he not only thanked the teams but regional officials, the sports and youth ministry and sponsoring companmies for making the 2013 tournament a reality.

“I eFuture champion displays talentxtend my confratulations to the participating regional teams, the organizing entities and citizens at-large for making this tournament the biggest ever in our country’s history” said president Silanyo as he reiterated his government’s commitment to youth development.

The opening ceremony of the tournament broadcast live by the Somaliland national Tv and Bulsho Tv courtsey of sponsorship from the telecommunication companies of Somtel and Telesom and officiated by President silanyo saw thousands of spectators in attendance including cabinet ministers, traditiona and religious leaders, members of both houses of parliament, regional administrators as well as citizens from all walks of life.

The spectators old and young most having accompanied thier teams from as far away as the eastern region of BadanSpectators that is making its firts appearance in the annual tournament together with Selel, Sarar, Buhodle are of the believe that their teams shall emerge champions in all the categories of Football, Athletica and basketball.

The opening match of the opening ceremony saw the reigning champions Maroodi-jeeh (Hargeisa) who won the soccer cup in Burao during the 2012 tournament beat newcomers Sarar region by 2 to 1.

The second game saw Hawdf region who are last tournament’s runners-up in the soccer category beat newcomers Badan region 2-1.
