Somaliland sun – The national Endowment for Democracy has availed eight local nongovernmental organizations a total of $269,166 as grants towards implementing a similar number of projects with a bas to human and women rights
Summarily, and in reference to Grant descriptions from the 2015 NED Annual Report Somaliland NGOs benefitting, amount of grant and slated projects include
$30,000 for Building Democracy and Respect for Human Rights to Human Rights Center$28,781 to the Institute for Practical Research and Training for Enhancing Political Institutions in Somaliland$35,190 to Women in Journalism Association towards Enhancing the Role of Women Through Independent Media$30,650 to Women’s Rehabilitation and Development Association for Enhancing Women’s Political Participation$35,790 to Voices of Somaliland Minority Women Organization for Promoting Political Participation for Minorities in Somaliland$32,730 to Somaliland Youth Voluntary Organization towards Strengthening Democracy by Promoting Freedom of Expression$33,115 to United Trust Associations towards Understanding the Role of Media in Social Development and Policy Formation and $42,910 to Somaliland National Youth Organization towards Youth Action for a Free, Fair and Transparent Presidential Election
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a U.S. non-profit soft power organization that was founded in 1983 to promote democracy as itself claims. It is funded primarily through an annual allocation from the U.S. Congress in the form of a grant awarded through the United States Information Agency (USIA). Although administered as a private organization, its funding mostly comes from a governmental appropriation by Congress but was created by The Democracy Program as a bipartisan, private, non-profit corporation
