Somaliland: Initial Hussein-Hoog Basketball Stadium Construction Fundraiser Nets Nearly $100,000

Somalilandsun -Nearly $100,000 has been raised for the construction of a new Basketball stadium in a government-led fundraising event held Sunday at Maansoor Hotel in Hargeisa.

The fundraising event was attended by cabinet members including Foreign Minister Mohamed Bihi Yonis, Finance Minister Samsam Abdi Adam, Rehabilitation Minister Ali Saed Raygal, Deputy Sports Minister Yusuf Osman Garas, Deputy Information Minister Abdiwahid, Justice $ Welfare Party-UCID presidential candidate Jamal Ali Hussein, parliamentarians, diaspora members, businessmen, basketball players and civil society members.

Speaking at the fundraising event, the Deputy Minister for Sports and Youth Mr. Yusuf Osman Garas stated that they have added $10,000 in the Sports Ministry’s upcoming year budget plan.

“On behalf of Minister of Sports and Youth I would to inform that the Sports Ministry added $10,000 in the Ministry’s upcoming year budget plan,” Minister Garas Revealed.

Somaliland Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Yusuf GarasMr. Garas also stated that the Sports Ministry is committed to the development of the country’s sporting activities where he also called Somaliland businessmen and public to donate for the construction of Hussein Hoog Basketball stadium.

The opposition Justice $ Welfare Party-UCID presidential Jamal Ali Hussein who also spoke at the event welcomed the ongoing fundraising project.

The construction of the new Basketball stadium is the brainchild of a former avid basketball player Hussein Mohamed Hore better known as Hussein-Hoog and upon completion the stadium will be named after him.

It’s noteworthy to mention that Deputy Sports Minister Mr. Yusuf Osman Garas since has his appointment in May left no stone unturned for the development of the country’s sports activities.
