HAGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Inter-governmental Authority on Development –IGAD has acknowledged the huge democratization and peace-building Somalilanders have achieved so far.
This was revealed by the regional body’s representative to Somaliland and Somalia Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Afey during a post Guurti meeting press briefing in Hargeisa where he also announced that IGAD is going to support the presidential and parliamentary elections slated for 2015 in Somaliland.
“IGAD which appreciates the democratization process and peaceful co-existence established by Somalilanders is going to facilitate financially and materially the forthcoming elections in our country “said Amb Afey.
The ambassador who was on the second day of his three days maiden visit to Somaliland had held a closed door meeting with Suleiman Aden; chairman of Guurti, the Somaliland upper chamber of parliament in the visiting Amb expressed his body’s appreciation of the elder’s chamber for their efforts in helping attain sustainable peace in Somaliland.
Upon his arrival a day earlier Amb Afey held another closed meeting with government officials at the foreign affairs ministry among them interior minister Mohamed al Waran’ade an FM Mohamed Behi where IGAD revealed its intent to help diverse sectored development.
The visiting ambassador is expected to meet with the Somaliland head of state president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo before departure of his delegation.
