Somalilandsun – The U.S. State Department issued a travel warning for Djibouti on Sunday, warning Americans of potential terror threats aimed at American interests in the African nation.

The State Department says that it “continues to receive information about potential terrorist threats” against American individuals and operations in the area. On May 24, two suicide bombers attacked a restaurant in the Djibouti city center that was popular with westerners. One person was killed and several were injured in the attack.

The group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the May attack and has threatened to conduct similar attacks in Djibouti, threats they’ve made since 2011 when Djibouti committed to contributing forces to the African Union Mission in Somali.

Employees at the U.S. Embassy has placed travel restrictions on its employees and advised employees and American non-employees to avoid large gatherings in public places.
