HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Somalilanders have made it clear to all and sundry that their independence is not for negotiation.

This was said by the president H.E Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo during an EID Ul-Fitr address to the nation after prayers at Hargeisa’s main mosque where he also wished the nation peace and prosperity in the coming years.

While reiterating the irrevocability of the costly and had won sovereignty the president urged Somalilanders to maintain peaceful co-existence and national unity thus win more accolades from the international community which despite its acknowledgement of 21 years of home grown achievements continues to be deaf to appeals for recognition.

On the ongoing Somaliland obsessed process of shifting from a transitional to permanent government in Somalia, The head of state said, ” I hereby inform our brothers in the south and the international community that Somaliland is a sovereign country whose autonomy came after a lengthily and costly struggle by its citizens who are neither read nor prepared for less”

President Silanyo revealed that Somalilanders continuously pray for their brothers in Somalia to achieve stability in order to end the never ending difficulties they have endured over the years as a prelude to becoming neighbours in prosperity and development of the citizens of the two countries that not only share a border but language, religion and culture as well.

In an earlier broadcast transmitted live on the national TV channel His Excellency the president informed that the government is going to crack hard on anybody who engage in any activities that might be detrimental to the Republic of Somaliland.

Said he, “Anyone caught acting contrary to the constitution of Somaliland which is a treasonable offence will be face the full wrath of law without fear or favour”

During the address to the nation on the eve of EID Ul-Fitr that was made without notes President dwelt on various issues that clearly spelt out the direction his administration has prioritized for action in the now and future that relate to strict anti-graft within local governments especially to the run up to November elections, Enhancement of Judicial services, Peace building in the eastern regions, on hold internationally sanctioned talks with Somalia and how Somaliland perceives the Somalia draft constitution.
