Somaliland: UK to Support Judiciary Service Provision Enhancement

HARGEISA (Somaliland sun) – The Somaliland Judiciary services provision is set for a major review.
The planned review that shall be jointly undertaken by the governments of Great Britain and Somaliland was revealed by the United Kingdom’s envoy to Somalia and Somaliland Ambassador Harriet Mathews.

In a message posted on her twitter account Amb Harriet said that the UK support towards judiciary review in the country was discussed and agreed upon during a meeting with the Somaliland chief justice Prof Adan Haji Ali Ahmed in Hargeisa.

The meeting occurred during a visit to Hargeisa by a high level UK government delegation led by Minister of State, Department for International Development Grant Shapps and including the new UK Ambassador to Somalia/Somaliland, Ambassador Harriet Mathews and the Head of DFID program on 24 July 2015.
Though the UK is yet to recognize Somaliland as a sovereign country 24 years after it pulled out of its voluntary 1960 union with Italian Somalia, authorities in London are among major donors towards development in various sectors.
