Somaliland: Stakeholders Inducted on New Water Supply Act

Somalilandsun – The Minister of Water resources Hon. Hussein Amed Abdulle opened a workshop at Maansoor Hotel in Hargeisa organized by UNICEF and Caritas pertaining to the recently passed water supply act.

The meeting brought together all stake holders of water resources and supply from all regions of the country.

Speaking at the venue the assistant minister of Agriculture Mr. Aden Ibrahim said that water is very important in irrigation of farms. He said that the agricultural sector has not yet been fully explored mainly as a result of the scarcity of the precious commodity which hinders the country from self-sustainability in terms of food security and asked the participants to come-up with a comprehensive strategy to make water available to all regions without delay.

The Water Minister Mr. Hussein Ahmed Abdulle requested to the International NGOs to help to improve water resources in the country by funding regional water parastatals in finding solutions to this critical issue by drawing their expertise to educate on management of water resources in a sustainable manner.

He advised the regional water utility parastals to plan earnestly their policy concerning water dissemination.

He promised that his ministry is going to introduce a new water strategy for the nation.
