HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The continued success of Mo Farah have elevated Somaliland in the eyes of the international community.

This was said by the president H.E Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo in a press statement released after Mo Farah won the 5000m Gold for team GB at the ongoing London Olympics.

The president’s congratulatory statement read:

I hereby extend congratulations to Mo Farah who is a son of both Somaliland and Great Britain, on his success in winning a second gold medal for team GB at the ongoing London Olympics games.

on my own behalf and that Somalilanders, further praise Mo Farah on his international success in winning Olympic gold medals at both 10,000 and 5,000 metres which have not only won him personal recognition but accolades to both his adapted country of Great Britain and his original motherland of Somaliland.

I pray that Allah will facilitate for him similar successes in the future, for these current achievements have elevated his country Somaliland a notch higher in the international limelight.

Finally I urge all Somaliland youths to abstain from indulging destructive lifestyles and emulate Mo Farah who is a perfect role model thus attainment of not only personal but national and international glory.

Thank you

Mohamed Farah who becomes the first Somalilander to win a gold medal at the Olympics has also become a national icon in the country even though he runs for his adopted country of Great Britain since his motherland Somaliland remains unrecognized internationally thus not a member of the international Olympic committee.
