The IGAD team led by the body’s envoy to Somaliland/Somalia Amb Mohamed Abdi Afey revealed this after a meeting with President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo who was attended by Vice president Abdirahman Sayli and other officials at the Hargeisa presidency.

Though IGAD and Somaliland enjoy tepid relationship as a result of the lackluster reception of Somaliland’s sovereignty quest by the regional body that brings together countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan , South Sudan, Uganda, Somalia etc the current visit by Amb Afey and commitment to increase development and democratization engagement signals a significant rethink within the IGAD
Among the support commitments made during the ongoing visit by Amb Afey include Financial and material aid towards the democratization process and more specifically the presidential and parliamentary elections slated for mid 2015, Intervention in the health sector and Engagement with the legislative assembly as well as possible participation in internationally sanctioned dialogue between Somaliland and neighbouring Somalia.
