Somaliland: Over 4M Somalis Face Famine

Somalilandsun- Some 4.7 million people continue to require life-saving assistance and livelihood support in Somalia. The number of poor households faced with acute food insecurity in Somalia is expected to increase until September 2016, according to the Famine Early Warning Systems Network.

This is in part, due to poor Gu rains which ended earlier than usual and led to the destruction of crops, reduced labour opportunities and poor generation of pasture and water resources. This, coupled with an outbreak of Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD)/ cholera in southern and central Somalia could worsen an already fragile humanitarian situation. Continue reading
