Somaliland: Opposition Wadani and UCID parties Warn Somalia Federal Authorities

Somalilandsun- Somaliland is a country that is beyond conflict status thus engaged in internal as well as wider Horn of Africa regional development

To this effect say Somaliland opposition parties of Wadani and UCID “any entity bent on deterring the same despite the international recognition of Somaliland shall meet with the fiercest force possible”

The strong sentiments issued by the opposition parties was in reaction to a statement released by the Somalia federal government following signature in Dubai of a three pronged agreement between the governments of the UAE, Ethiopia and Somaliland on the 1st March 2018 that pertains to the management of Berbera port by Dubai ports world

According to ink of paper shares of the $420m Berbera port development contract sees Ethiopia, DP world and Somaliland acquire 19%,51% and 30% of shares respectively termed by the authorities in Mogadishu as not only non-existent  but null and void as well.

Speaking to the press in Hargeisa the Wadani party secretary general Mohamed Abdilahi Ura’ade said that if “Somalia persists to be disrespectful towards the sovereignty of Somaliland, subsequent consequences should be similwl6 accepted for they shall be swift and fierce.

“The Contract awarded DP World to Manage Berbera port was done by the government of Somaliland courtesy of full approval by parliament and citizens” said Ura’ade adding that it is surprising to continuously hear of press statement issued by Somalia purportedly in opposition to this contract

Stressing on the fact that Somaliland has persisted in endeavours to live harmoniously and in a brotherly manner with neighbouring Somalia, the Wadani party boss said “Unless you (Somalia) resist then be prepared for our reaction.

In his part the UCID party leader Eng Feisal Ali Warabe speaking to the press also in Hargeisa said the deal signed in Dubai symbolifies Somaliland as country that is beyond crisis thence trusted by long established governments for purpose of multimillion dollars.

Querying the purported authority of the Mogadishu based administration Eng Warabe said that if the new deal for Somalia is anything to go by then there is nothing called Somalia federal government for the new deal encompasses Somaliland, Puntland and Jubaland.

Returning to the pertinent issue of the Berbera port contract awarded Emirati firm DP World the UCID party boss said that it was one not related to Somalia which should pursue development of the port in Mogadishu just as Puntland pursues that of Bosaso and Jubaland that of Kismayu.

In conclusion Eng Feisal Ali Warabe who reiterated the warning by Wadani party said that pursuit of peaceful co-existence should not be misconstrued as fear or cowardice to defend national integrity.

The Government of Somaliland had earlier on issued a similar statement
