HARGEISA (Somalilandsun)-For the first time in the history of Somaliland, an attempt was made to kill a member of parliament; when a gunman opened fire on Mr. Mohamed Farah Qabille (MP), from a pistol he was carrying on Tuesday evening.

Mr. Qabille , explaining the incident said,” I and 2 men were in my car , when a car came behind us and stopped beside us and said to me’ Mr. MP why don’t you stop the daily personal attack on someone who is our in law. I saw someone sitting in the front seat with him and others were in the back seat, although their windows were raised.”

He added that he knew the man and started his car; but heard a pistol, being shot into the air and the car moving backward with high speed; while two other shots were fired in their direction.

He accused close confidantes of his assailant among them the internal security assistant minister Mr. Abdillahi Abokor and minister of information and national Heritage Mr. Abdillahi Ukuse for master minding the assassination attempt on his life Mr. Qabille was speaking to reporters in a press conference.

He also said people close to the presidential palace. He accused the internal security assistant minister has the funder of assassination and the minister of information and national heritage was the venue where the operation of the assassins was organized. Both ministers denied the allegation when we antecede them to a certain this matter.

“I know the man who fired the pistol. I went to the nearest police station and reported the incident. The 2 men who were with me told the police what they witnessed.” said Mr. Qabille.

Mr. Tabarak Mohamed Du’ale- who is at large told HAATUF newspaper, in an exclusive interview- that he opened fire from his pistol in self-defense, when he saw Mr. Qabille moving towards his car with his pistol in his hand.

He said, “I fired the first bullet above his car, when he pulled out his pistol and I moved my car backward. I had to fire twice into the air when he was rushed towards my car.”

Mr. Du’ale added that his action was not politically motivated as both of them are in the opposition of Justice and Welfare Party (UCID) and that they are of the same clan, and that the attack was not attempted murder, but self defense.

In answer to who the in law mentioned is he said, “He is the president. I told Mr. Qabille to stop his personal attack on the president. I am not against criticism against the president or his government; but personal attack on in laws is against our tradition.”

Mr. Du’ale said that he will give himself to the police, if he is convinced that he – an ordinary person and Qabille an MP, will have equal justice.
