Somaliland: Guurti opens 48th Session

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Guurti Elders opened their 48th Sitting with a comprehensive briefing by the Standing committee of the country’s upper house of parliament

The Elders who were on a two months recess were informed of the various activities undertaken by the house’s standing committee for the duration of their leave during the first day of their 48th session that was officiated by deputy chairman Sh Ahmed Sh Nuh Fuure.

According to the chairperson of the standing committee Elder Muhumed Aw Ahmed, members of the committee undertake various activities related to their office and as per instructions of the house thus fully aware and informed of prevalent issues of national concern.

As per the Secretary of the standing committee Elder Abbdinasir Aden Beegsi, the main functions undertaken by the committee include:

• Briefings by various public officials that include Minister of Commerce & Industry, Interior minister, Central bank governor, Hargeisa Mayor and the chairman of the quality control commission. As well as

• An inspection visit of Hargeisa Group Hospital

After the briefing copies of the agenda for the 48th session were distributed to all elders who were more than two thirds of the quorum of the 82 members of the Guurti which is Somaliland’s upper house of parliament whose members are appointed by respective clans.
