“On this day, 31st May, Dahabshiil group decides to make the eDahab Somaliland Shilling operational as a money transfer unit compatible with the company’s mobile wallet system,” CEO Abdirahman said.
The decision, he added, stemmed from customer demand precipitated by the unstable, fluctuating foreign currency rates at both business and household levels reports the somalilandmonitor
“Dahabshiil prides itself in placing customer interest at the head of all priority lists,” he said. “The extension of this service to Dahabshiil’s already burgeoning business portfolio is no different.”
Mr. Fuad Ahmed Nouh, eDahab Director, also speaking at the occasion, stated that the Group was the first to integrate the Somaliland Shilling top-up feature for Somtel GSM subscribers, making the addition a ground-breaking service of tremendous advantage to users.
Mr. Fuad added that the new Somaliland Shilling-based services included mobile-t-mobile money transfer, merchant payments, Somtel mobile top-up, and cash-in Cash-out at all Dahabshiil-Somtel branches.
Abdullahi Haj Jama Ali, Somaliland Central Bank Governor, expressed amazement at how fast the new additional SLSh services were completed by eDahab technical teams.
“I am deeply grateful for what you have done. This occasion is a testimony of technology harnessed to serve all levels of customers,” he said.
The Governor expressed his appreciation and pleasure saying that there is no greater accolade to the company than the impact the service will definitely have on the market.
The introduction of the Somaliland Shilling-based mobile wallet reduces the gap of the haves and the have-nots in society by offering customers a choice of currency. The USD-based system only served only those who had access to the foreign currency.
