Somaliland: Dahabshiil Donates COVID-19 Medical Equipment to Ministry of Health

Somalilandsun-Dahabshiil group of companies on Thursday handed over the first consignment of medical equipment to help the government of Somaliland stem the fast-growing coronavirus pandemic.

Mr. Abdi Rashid Farah, the managing director of Dahabshiil remittance handed over the first consignment equipment to the Minister of Health during a ceremony held at the ministry premises.

Mr. Abdirashid Farah, speaking during the handing over ceremony said, “On behalf of Dahabshiil group, I am handing over the first consignment of medical equipment to the ministry of health worth $200,000 Dollars

  1. COVID-19 laboratory (PCR), which will enhance the country’s diagnosis capability.
  2. 2 ventilation devices and oxygen respirators.
  3. 1fully equipped Ambulance.

Mr. Abdirashid Farah, the managing director of Dahabshiil remittance said that due to the COVID-19 global lockdown we could not import all the equipment at one time but promised to hand over the remaining equipment to the ministry of health once they arrive in the country.

Dr. Omar Ali Abdillahi, Somaliland Minister of Health speaking during the ceremony thanked the Dahabshiil Group of Companies for the donation and noted the importance of the COVID-19 laboratory (PCR), in enhancing diagnosis capability in Togdheer region which lacks the facilities.

Dr. Omar Ali Abdillahi, Somaliland Minister of Health in turn handed over the donated medical equipment to the deputy and acting governor of Togdheer region.

The deputy and acting Governor of Togdheer region his part said, “I want to convey my deepest and most sincere thanks to the Dahabshiil Group for their contribution in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In addition, to medical equipment, Dahabshiil group had previously donated $200, 000 Dollars in cash meant to be distributed either in foodstuffs or cash donations to at least 4,000 needy families.
