Somalilandsun: The Somali government has said an internet outage experienced across the country was not related to politics.

Technology Minister Abdi Ashur Hassan told state-owned Somali National TV that it was caused by a damaged submarine optic cable.

An investigation by the government and the internet service provider, Dalcom, had found the damage had happened 27km (17 miles) off the coast of Somalia, he said.

A non-governmental organisation and social media reports had linked the outage to the impeachment of Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.

It was reported on Monday morning and was resolved by Tuesday morning.

It affected media and business operations.
