Diane in Somaliland with Edna on on the cover of MORE, with other beautiful landersWith her heartfelt PBS documentary set to air in two parts on October 1st and 2nd, Diane Lane garnered a little recognition for the work she’s been doing in Somali by landing on the September 2012 cover of More Canada magazine.

The 47-year-old actress looked enchanting in a Bottega Veneta blazer and Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry for the Peggy Sirota shot front page while dishing about everything from having an empty nest with her husband, Josh Brolin, to helping expose the abuse of women in Somaliland.

Highlights from Miss Lane’s interview are as follows.

On going to eastern Africa for the PBS documentary “Half the Sky”:

“My role at the minimum was to be a witness and an ambassador. I’m guilty of the sheltered, privileged life of an American woman. I was grateful to have had the scales cleansed from my eyes about the plight of women in he majority of the world.”

On her difficult childhood:

“I was missing out on a lot, sports and friends suff. Normal childhood looked like a candy store and Christmas to me. I was so happy to see other specimens it was such a rarity. I don’t think young people today remember there was a time when 14 year olds didn;t control the entertainment industry.”

On her children recently moving out:

“I can still hear the sound of Velcro ripping, the tearing away feeling. [Being without them] is kind of chilling but I like straightforward showdowns with fate. I’m feeling good about it.”
