Acting UDUB SG Abdi Halim announces CCMBy: Yusuf M Hasan

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The central committee of the UDUB party has been summoned

The summons for the long overdue central committee meeting of the official opposition political party was announced by acting Mr. Abdi Halim Mohamed Muse in a press statement he released from party headquarters in Hargeisa.

“In reference to article 16.4 section J&X and as well as pursuant to decisions reached by the party’s executive committee on the 20th June 2012 and subsequent circular from chairman dated 17th July 2012, I hereby inform all party members that a central committee meeting will be held in Hargeisa on 25th August 2012”

“I therefore inform all central committee members of UDUB party to ensure that they communicate with the party secretariat in Hargeisa in order to confirm participation as well as secure mandatory meeting attendant card” read the statement

In elaboration the acting party secretary general informed that the purpose of the central committee meeting is strategize on the way forward as pertains to forthcoming local council elections in addition to internal party reconstruction that is occasioned by recent factional disputes that resulted in defections.

UDUB which is the main opposition party and the oldest political body in the country has in the recent past been embroiled in disputes that emanated from the selection of youthful politician Jamal Ali Hussein as party leader and presidential candidate.

The selection that was fronted by deputy chair Ahmed Yusuf Yasin who was acting in the absence of party leader and former president Hon Dahir Rayale Kahin has seen the fortunes of the former ruling and current main opposition dwindle.

The fall out saw Ahmed Yusuf Yasin, former Vice president and deputy party chair take his boss Dahir Rayale to court on charges of clinging to power against the constitution. The Constitution court sitting in Hargeisa which ruled in favour of Dahir Rayale also ordered Ahmed Yusuf to desist from creating more confusion and fragmentation within the party.

Following the legal defeat of Ahmed Yasin in Court, his choice of leader Jamal Ali Hussein decamped to the Justice and Welfare party-UCID of veteran politician Eng. Feisal Ali Warabe. The Jamal party hopping also ensued with the defection of a number of UDUB heavyweights among them former party spokesperson and a couple of regional leaders.

The Jamal’s decamping to UCID that was originally perceived as a bad omen appears to have been a blessing in disguise For UDUB considering that the party has managed to agree on and actually slating a date for the important central committee meeting.
