As the New York based committee to protect journalists demands immediate and unconditional release of Hargeisa police detained Hangool news duo.

Somalilandsun- It is illegal to hold a person without charge for more than 48 hours after their arrest, according to the Somaliland constitution.
This was stated by the Committee to Protect Journalist in reaction to the continued detention of Ibrahim Osman Ahmed editor of Hangool News in the custody of police in Hargeisa since 15th April 2017 together with journalist Abdirahman Arab Daud.
The editor was detained after he gave himself up in exchange for his subordinate who had initially been arrested on 11th April for reports critical of Somaliland police commissioner Abdillahi Fadal Iman and conditions in Hargeisa Central Police Station,
Stating that “News agencies must be permitted to report without fear of detention or other forms of reprisal.” The statement by the New York Based CPJ demanded that “Somaliland authorities immediately release Ibrahim Osman Ahmed and end its harassment of Hangool News staff,”
