HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The president of Somaliland Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo has extended a goodwill message to Somalilanders and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of celebrating the new Islamic Year 1435 Al-hijra.

“While thanking Allah for the grace bestowed Somalilanders in the past year I beseech similar for the new 1435 Al-hijra” said the head of state in a message dispatched from the presidential press office in the capital Hargeisa.

As the country prepared for celebrations of the new to be commemorated nationwide on the 4th November 2013 many Hargeisa residents were oblivious of a solar eclipse that engulfed the city between 4-445 pm.

Devoid of any public weather forecast facilities all in the Somaliland capital city include most media houses were caught off guard by the solar eclipse which is a rare occurrence in the country of 3.5 million people.

Though we at Somalilandsun were among those caught flatfooted by the solar eclipse we take this opportunity to wish somalilanders and all our readers worldwide a happy and prosperous Al-hijra 1435.
