Somalilandsun – The government of Somaliland has for the second year participated in discussi9ons related to Security in the wider Africa at the Tana Forum in Ethiopia.
facilitated by the Federal government of Ethiopia The 4th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa under the theme Secularism and Politicized Faith took place in the Ethiopian town of Bahir Dar on 18th and 19th April 2015 where the Somaliland team of Interior minister Mohamed Ali Waran’ade and Foreign affairs colleague Mohamed Behi Younis had the opportunity to rub shoulders with various African dignitaries among them the presidents of North & South Sudan and Ethiopia as well as high ranking officials from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Mal, Botswana and Puntland a regional state of Somalia.
According to organizers the theme of Tana Forum 2015 was relevant and timely as politicised faith has grown to become a critical concern for peace and security in Africa. The 4th Forum was also responding to one of the most disruptive challenges facing the continent today.
The dialogue of the 2 days meeting will assist in examining these notions and developing a shared political programme thereby shaping the debate of the process of nation-building and societal transformation in Africa.
The Programme Director was Mr. Abdul Mohamed, Chief of Staff, African Union High-Level Implementation Panel for Sudan and South Sudan and member of the Tana Forum Technical Committee while Chief Rapporteur was Prof. Amr Abdalla, Senior Research Advisor, Africa Peace and Security Programme, Institute for Peace and Security Studies, IPSS. This is the second year in running for the duo of Somaliland officials to not only participate in the high level and very important Tana forum but similarly to parley high ranking African heads on prevalent status of their country not to mention sideline meeting with officials from Puntland more specifically its president Abdiweli Gaas.
