LONDON (Somalilandsun) – Former prime minister of Kenya Mr Raila Odinga has asked the international community to accord Somaliland it’s much sought for recognition as a sovereign nation.

Mr Odinga made this sentiments during a meeting with president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo at Heathrow airport London where the two were moving on opposite directions with Odinga in London to attend the CEO Summit Africa’ while president Silanyo is on the way home after a lengthily diplomatic sojourn in Turkey, UK and USA.

While wishing Somalilanders well in the endeavours Raila Odinga said that the world which can no longer continue to ignore achievements the unrecognized Somaliland has garnered in 21 years should now reciprocate by capping them recognition as a sovereign nation.

Raila Odinga who narrowly lost to current Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta during recent elections is an ardent proponent of Somaliland’s statehood which he has displayed by not only visiting the country a couple of times while in the opposition but active participation in commemorations of Somaliland public holidays in Kenya.

British Somaliland which pulled out of its 1960 voluntary later fateful union with Italian Somalia in 1991 following a costly and bloodied war with Dictator Siad Barre remains unrecognized as an independent nation f
