Puntland MPs ask Farole(R) to shut upBy: Yusuf M Hasan

GAROWE (Somalilandsun) – Puntland parliamentarians are unanimous in their support for talks between Somaliland and Somalia.

This was revealed by the legislators during their 28th session at parliament buildings in Garowe where they vehemently rebuked their President Abdirahman Sh Mohamed Farole for his covert opposition to the talks and subsequent agreement reached especially the Dubai declaration that was signed by Presidents Silanyo and Sharif of Somaliland and Somalia respectively in Dubai on 28th June 2012.

During an interview with BBC Somali service on 29th June 2012 President Farole made scathing attacks to the talks, both the Chevening house and Dubai declarations as well as to presidents Silanyo and Sharif who he termed as self-seekers with ulterior motives in the much acclaimed talks between the two countries that are 21 years overdue.

In the interview regional administration president insinuated that president Silanyo was in the talks to facilitate the recognition of his country Somaliland while president Sharif’s motive was to garner support for presidential elections to be held in Somalia in August this year after the mandate of the transitional federal government he rules expires.

The Garowe legislators, who were being briefed by their political affairs committee, informed the absent Farole that instead of continuously being the leader of conflict he should return home and concentrate on matters that fall under his mandate.

The report of the political sub-committee which was read to the legislators by chairperson Hon Abdiqadir Farah Botaan, criticized president Farole for not only trying to mar the SL-TFG talks but for prolonged absences abroad thus negate performance of official mandate.

The sub-committees report also attributed continued conflicts within Puntland and with neighbouring countries to the haphazard portion of the regions natural resources to foreign investors by Farole.

The parliamentarians who further accused Farole of having lost political direction, asked him to resign before he engulfs the region in disputes that will be difficult to entangle.

This is the first time for the Garowe parliamentarians to have opposed Farole in his various machinations especially as it pertains to Somaliland, a country whose stability is a thorn in the flesh of Farole thus his never ending support to various imaginary opponents of the Hargeisa administration especially with some clans in the east of the country.
