HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The two chambers of parliament will convene at an extraordinary session on Wednesday 30th Jan 2013.

The speaker of the parliament Hon Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi ‘Irro’ has summoned all members of the two chambers of parliament to an extraordinary session to be held on Wednesday 30th Jan 2013.

In a letter to all members of the legislative assembly and supplied to the local media houses, Speaker Irro said that the extraordinary session is to facilitate a request from the head of state for opportunity to undertake his annual address to parliament.

The speaker’s statement cum members summons read:

Quite- In accSpeaker Irro convenes extraordinary sessionordance to sections 2 and 4, article 46 of the Somaliland constitution and in pursuit of fulfilling a presidential request for opportunity to undertake his annual address to a joint session of parliament, I hereby call upon all members of the upper (Guurti) and lower (house of reps) chambers of parliament to an extraordinary session to be held at parliament buildings, Hargeisa at 9 am on 30/01/2013, Members are urged to keep time-Unquote

The two tier Somaliland parliament made of the Guurti and house of representatives hears an annual address from the head of state on any given date the presidency deems fit or in case of urgent state matters.

It is believed that President Silanyo’s Address will touch in large part on the recent Travel ban directive issued by the UK in addition to other issues most likely local council elections and upcoming resumption of talks between Somaliland and Somalia to be hosted by Britain in may.
