Somaliland: President Extends Happy Islamic New Year 1440 Hijri Greetings

Somalilandsun- “On my own behalf, that of the government and citizens of Somaliland I hereby congratulate all Muslims on the auspicious occasion of Hijri 1440.
This was stated by President Muse Behi Abdi in a statement released by his office in Hargeisa in which he also wished blessings from Allah to all Muslims and more so citizens of Somaliland both at home and abroad.

Finally the President informed that Tuesday 11th September 2018 is a national holiday specifically to mark the new Islamic year 1440

The Islamic, Muslim, or Hijri calendar (Arabic: التقويم الهجري‎ at-taqwīm al-hijrī) is a lunar calendar consisting of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days.
Hijri begins its count from the Islamic New Year in 622 AD/CE exactly on the date Prophet Muhammad (PBUH )and his followers migrated from Mecca to Yathrib.
