1. Following the courage of his convictions:Dr Silanyo Visionary leadership

With dignity, determination and well balanced judgment, President Ahmed Silaanyo has successfully moved the country out of the ditch that the former administration left the country in. The majority of Somaliland people are well aware of the unfavourable economical, social and political situation with which the current government started when they came to power, where they have come from and where they are now.

Driven by a sense of patriotism, responsibility and following the courage of his convictions, President Ahmed Silaanyo leads the country into the right direction. In a relatively very short time, the President has translated his electoral promises into concrete and visible actions and he is steering the ship of the moral recovery responsibly and with wisdom.

The President has restored the people’s trust and belief in the political system, in government as well as in the democratic system and social justice. He repaired and realigned Somaliland’s economic, social and foreign policy with progressive and democratic vision wherein many countries in the region and beyond would like to emulate and implement it. He leads a government inspired by the trust and believes in their ability, collective sense of social responsibility, good governance, effort and transparency.

A leader should be judged on the basis of his vision, moral conviction, historical and political credentials. The President of Somaliland Republic is a Living Icon who represents the hope and the legitimate aspirations of Somaliland people for ever-lasting freedom, self-determination and independence within the free nations of the world. He is the Embodiment and the Symbol of the Legendry Armed Resistance Forces who fiercely fought against the atrocities and all the brutal acts that the population of Somaliland has suffered at the hands of the former cruel regime of Somalia.

To all intents and purposes President Ahmed Silaanyo has demonstrated that he is far more than a prominent tribal figure driven by clannish sentiment and political favouritism. Time and time again, he has shown that he has a profound managerial insight, a capable crisis manger and someone with a collective leadership quality who can work with a range of people from different political and social background. One good example thereof is the exemplary way in which President Ahmed Silaanyo and his government dealt with the peace and stability process within Somaliland’s eastern region (Sool/Buhoodle). This is a real testimony and it says something about the wisdom, maturity and leadership quality of a wise and time-honoured president.

2. Strengthening the Sense of Nationhood and Social Togetherness:

A society increasingly fragmented and polarized on economic, social and political aspects; it is of a paramount importance to stress and promote the nationhood, unity, tolerance and social cohesion among Somaliland people in one hand. On the other hand, a social justice and equality applied in every level of Somaliland people has to reflect the values and history of our great nation. The Somaliland citizens must also have the rights and ability to speak their mind and have a say in how they are governed; they should have confidence in the rule of law and the equal administration of justice. The Somaliland citizens are ardently eager to see a government that is transparent and doesn’t embezzle and pinch from the people.

One of the unmistakable approaches of President Ahmed Silaanyo is the fact that he tirelessly encourages and promotes the sense of belonging and nationhood and the social togetherness of the Somaliland people. In particularly, the President stresses and reinforces what keeps and binds the Somaliland people together as a nation while he tries to reduce and prevent those factors that cause social conflicts and contributing to inequalities, division and disagreement. This is the way forward and the basis for ensuring that today’s government inspirations can be permanently converted and translated into tomorrow’s lasting nationwide civic participation and the belief and trust of Somaliland citizens in their own government.

We do not have to be necessarily defined and confined by the presence of a permanent reliving of our past, we have to move forward! However, in persuade of a better future for our country, the past cannot be ignored. President Ahmed Silaanyo is extremely aware of the terrible historical facts of his people; he is someone who takes note of the mistakes made in the past, learns the lessons and then acts on them.

3. Conclusion:

In this article, I will not omit to challenge those groups who are repeatedly against the interests of their country and nation, those groups who are constantly changing clan and political colour by turn, those groups who have an abhorrence of any progress and achievement made by our country; this is what I would like to say to them:

Our country is surrounded by geographically hostile and hate-breeding countries. At a time of rising hostility, animosity and jealousy towards the existence of nation and country, we need to distinguish the fundamental differences between opposing the incumbent government and fulfilling your patriotic obligations towards your own country. We don’t need shoot-from- the-hip attitude. Stop please your eccentric and odd interpretation of evidence! Be sensible and find out non-destructive ways to express your views and to make known your discontent and disagreement with regard to the way in which the current government leads and governs the country. Come up with well considered and more constructive debates that can be part of the cause for our nation and can contribute to the advancement of your people and your country’s future challenges.

May ALLAH (SXWT) protect the true and genuine patriot!
