Somaliland: Presidency Creates NGO Coordination Office

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The president of Somaliland Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo has created an office for the coordination of Non-Government Organizations both local and international with the presidency.

In presidential decree # JSL/M/XERM/249-2414/042014 released by the president’s spokesperson Ahmed Suleiman Duhul the president named Abdifatah Saeed Ahmed Guleid as his advisor on NGO issues.

In is decree of appointment the president who said an imperative need of keeping in-touch with NGO activities in the country cited the third section of article 90 of the Somaliland constitution as the source of his authority to create the office and appoint a bearer.

It is most probable that the newly appointed presidential advisor will have to work closely with the ministry of planning and national coordination which is the line ministry for Non-governmental organizations as well as the WFP coordination office which is closely associated with the ministry of Agriculture.
