Somaliland: Police to Crack Down on Unruly Drivers

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Police Commissioner Brigadier General Abdillahi Fadal Iman has given a strong directive to traffic police officers to arrest drivers who do not wear safety belts while driving. The commissioner gave the directive at celebrations to mark 17th November World Traffic Accidents Day held at Imperial Hotel in Hargeisa.

Brigadier General Abdillahi added that motor vehicles accident is on the rise thanks to unruly drivers who float traffic rules with impunity. He ordered his traffic officers to arrest any driver found driving without a seat belt or using mobile phones it the wheel. The commissioner warned drivers who do not follow traffic rules that they will face the full force of the law. He also cautioned those drivers who disrespect traffic police officers by not following their instructions that their days are numbered.

Also speaking at the venue was the minister of information and national heritage Mr.Abdillahi Mohammed Dahir Ukuse who said that was sad to see someone who was alive today gone tomorrow because of things that could be avoided even though the will of God is always there, but some mistakes could be avoided if rules of the road are respected by motorist.
