Somaliland: On Holiday President Joins Berbera Residents for Friday Prayers

BERBERA (Somalilandsun) – The Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo joined Hundreds of Berbera residents at the Khalid Bin Walid Mosque for Friday prayers.

President Silanyo who is in Berbera for a short holiday in the port city where he is attended by a small personal retinue that includes the 1st lady Amina Weris, commander of the presidential guard, and the national police commissioner.

At the mosque a number of Sahil regional administration officials who joined the head of state and citizens for prayers included the regional governor, Berbera mayor, Berbera port manager, Coast Guard commander among others.

In his sermon the imam who led prayers Sheikh Suleiman Saeed Ali urged Sahilians to participate in large numbers at the special rain prayers which president Silanyo had slated for Saturday 26th April before departure from Hargeisa.

According to a press statement signed by the minister of Religious affairs Sheikh Khalil citizens of Somaliland are to attend the special prayers for rain which shall be perform at each town’s venue of Eid prayers nationwide at 9 am on Saturday 26th April 2014.

While this is the first trip unaccompanied by the usual large entourage of Government ministers and ruling party Kulmiye functionaries for the president to undertake since assuming office in mid-2010 the length of the holiday has not been divulged.
