Somaliland: Ministry of Information Assumes Cultural Mandate

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Cultural shall affairs are to be managed by the ministry of information.

The department of culture has official been shifted from the Ministry of youth and sports to the ministry of information and national guidance a move that comes about following recent ministerial portfolio realignments.

In a ceremony held at the Radio Hargeisa compound where the information ministry of information is housed the Ali Saeed Raygal the minister of Youth, sports and Culture officially handed national cultural affairs management to his Cabinet colleague and minister of information Hon Abib Diriye Tima’ade

Minister Raygal informed that he is transferring 84 civil servants from the ministry of information who include departmental heads, drivers and various like composers, musicians, singers, poets and dancers etc.

The youth and sports minister hailed the head of state’s hindsight on placing for placing cultural affairs at the information and guidance where they rightfully belong.

Hon Tima’ade who praised the incoming department for the valuable part taken in national development all the way from the liberation eras to date said that their services would be utilized for dissemination purposes in all regions of the country.

The department of culture which together with that of tourism used to be the fully fledged ministry of tourism and culture was transferred to Raygal’s docket when their then ministry was scrapped by president Silanyo.

The realignments that saw the department shifted to information ensued together with that of creation of a new ministry of industry that was heaved from commerce.

It is hoped that the important departments of Tourism and Archaeology shall be relieved of their nomadic existence with the permanent allot to a relevant ministry as opposed to prevalent status where the two departments are under the commerce ministry portfolio.
