HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Citizens are preparing to return to normal routines following 2 days of Eid –ul-Fitr festivities that brought to an end the 3o days of fasting during the just concluded holy month of Ramadan.

This year’s celebrations in Somaliland were overseen by the Vice president Abdirahman Sayli who addressed the nation after performing prayers at the Masjid Jema’ah in Hargeisa where he was accompanied by senior ministers, parliamentarians and other state officials.
Other government officials joined thousand s of city residents at the Hargeisa stadium for the special Eid prayers also undertaken in all regional capitals and district headquarters most significant in Erigavo, Taleeh, Las Anod, Burao, Berbera, Gabile, Borame and Sayla where they were overseen by the governors of Sanaag, Haysimo, Sool, Toghdeer , Sahil, Gabile, Awdal and Selel regions respectively.

Another event of significance took place in London where the president of Somaliland Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo joined British Somaliland in performing Eid prayers and subsequent festivities that also became the first of the head of state to celebrate outside the country.
