Somalilandsun – From October 23rd to November 1st 2015 Oxford House Gallery Derbyshire St, London E2, UK shall host a Somaliland photo exhibition by Kate Stanworth a London-based documentary and portrait photographer

For the past three years Kate Stanworth has documented the Hargeysa International Book Fair-HIBF , one of the Horn of Africa’s most important celebrations of arts and literature, taking place each year in the capital of the peaceful, independent, yet unrecognized state of Somaliland.

The exhibition also showcases the work of young photographers who took part in photography training sessions run by Kate during the fair. Their photos explore everyday life and culture in Somaliland, a counterpoint to the media’s often reductive portrayal of the region through narratives of warlords and terrorism.

Kate Stanworth is a London-based documentary and portrait photographer who has carried out assignments and personal projects in Latin America, Europe and Africa. Her clients include Save the Children, Shelter and Mencap and her work has featured in The Guardian, Time Out, BBC in Pictures and The Economist, among others.

This exhibition by Kate Stanworth is part of Somali Week and Photomonth
