HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Any citizen appointed and holding public office in Somalia are persona non-grata.

This is per the chairperson of Guurti Elder Suleiman Mahmud Adan who also informed that the constitution of the country stipulates holding public office in Somalia as treason.

The upper chamber of parliament leader informed of the treasonable nature of such an act in reaction to the dual appointment of M/s Fozia Yusuf Haji Aden as the Somalia deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs.

Said he, “Any somalilander holding public office for the government based in Mogadishu will face the wrath of law as it relates to treason”

According to Elder Suleiman holding public office for the Somali government is tantamount to repudiating the sovereignty of Somaliland which separated from its fateful union with the south in 1991.

Ms Fozia Yusuf who is a prominent Somalilander was appointed to her dual posts by Somalia Prime minister Abdi-Farah Shirdoon ‘Saeed’ on 4th November.

The Guurti Elder becomes the first official figure to comment on the appointment which has elicited opposition and support from the citizenry.

Though several people from the country have held various public positions for diverse governments in Mogadishu Fozia’s appointment has attracted a lot of attention.

Despite the treasonable nature of this act none of the past or current appointees has ever been prosecuted as per constitutional stipulations.

On the same breath the chairman of the Guurti, the house of elders and upper chamber of parliament has castigated the Somalia regional administration of Puntland for constant what he termed as “warlike activities”

Incidents of incursions by Puntland militias have been reported in Dahar district in the east of Sanaag region where a number of civilian deaths occurred during skirmishes.

The elder who informed that the state must ensure security everywhere in the country, urged residents to support security personel dispatched to the area.

While lamenting the killing of two Oog district residents by a rogue soldier who is said to have escaped, Elder Suleiman asked police to expedite the arrest of the heinous crime perpetrator thus facilitate prosecution.
