Somaliland: Hearing Impaired Students In Borame Protest Heavy Handness by Unskilled Handlers

Somalilandsun- Deaf students in Borama converged in the town streets to protest the heavy handedness by untrained special needs teachers. They called on the ministry of education to build, equip and staff special needs school in the country. They said the teachers who currently teach them have no knowledge of sign language thus they are wasting their time by not teaching anything worthwhile.

They said enough is enough since all the previous administrations of Somaliland have neglected their plight. They asked the president of Somaliland H.E Musa Bihi Abdi to come to their aid since the ministry of education has simply failed them.

The special needs student said that they want the headmaster posted to deaf schools should understand their sign language.

Speaking to reporters a deaf student called Hassan revealed that during the good days qualified teachers were sent to their institution and were able to classify the students by separating those who understand sign language with those who do not.

They went further to claim that the ministry of education has simply neglected them for too long and now they are at the mercy of opportunists profiteering from their dilemma.
