Somaliland: Government Reviewing Consequencies of Lifting Somali Arms Embargo.

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Ongoing plans to lift the somalia Arms Embargo is being watched closely.

This was informed by the minister of defence Hon Ahmed Haji Ali Adami during an interview with the Horn Tribune in which he also spoke of the impleentation of army rankings.

The defence minister said that the administration in Hargeisa is closely following campaigns to lift the internationally imposed arms embargo on Somalia with an intent to act appropriately as the situation maybe.

“If The US fronted bid to have the UN lift the arms embargo is succesful Somaliland shall respond appropriately as per the threat the profusion of arms in Mogadishu entails to its security” Said Hon Adami

In the recent past there have been concerted efforts by the Mogadishu government to have the decades long arms embargo lifted thus acquire capabilities to fight Al-shabbab militants says somalia foreign minister Fowzia Yusuf Haji Aden.

While this campaign is yet to be approved by the UN reports indicate that a number of countries among them Iran, Yemen and Eritrea have been suplying arms despite the embargo.

On the issue of the ongoing ranks award within the armed forces the defence minister said that proper procedures are being used thus negating mounting fears that the excercices is clan based.
