Somalilandsun -Saed Sheikh Omer, the owner and Chief Executive Officer of Somaliland’s most iconic Restaurant, Summertime Restaurant has attended the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Nairobi.
The two day summit opened by U.S president, Barack Obama and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya was attended by various entrepreneurs, including social entrepreneurs, business people, venture capitalists and foundations with the aim of learning from each other, and identifying ways to improve the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
In an interview with BBC Somali Service has expressed his delight towards his attendance at the conference.
“I am over the moon to attend this conference and it’s the first time that I attend such this international conference,” Saed Sheikh Omer told BBC Somali Service.
Saed also told BBC Somali Somali Service that he received official invite from the U.S government and President Obama’s commitment to support young entrepreneurs is the reason behind his attendance at the conference.
Saed Sheikh Omer is the only Somalilander chosen to attend the conference.
Presidents Uhuru and Obama at the GES in NairobiThe Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is a White House initiative that partners with a different host country each year to showcase the dynamism of the local environment and hopefully strengthen entrepreneurial infrastructure.
GES is now in its sixth year and will be held in sub-Saharan Africa for the first time. This year the summit will have an overarching focus on generating new investments for emerging entrepreneurs, with a particular emphasis on women and young entrepreneurs.
