HARGEISA (Somalilandsun):- The Somaliland minister responsible for the environment, Mohamud Saeed Ga’ame has confirmed wildlife hunters from the Gulf are currently in Somaliland without the permission or knowledge of his ministry.
Minister Ga’ame confirmed that these hunters, with their birds of prey, in particular the falcon, are currently camped on the main route between Hargeisa and Burao.
Somaliland has a well established programme to facilitate wildlife hunters, in particular from the Gulf region, subject to government permits, a limit on the season and number and species of birds.
However, it seems in this case, the hunters have received permission directly from the presidency without the involvement of any other government departments, such as Environment, Livestock, Commerce, Finance, or any one else within the administration of President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud “Silanyo”
