Somaliland: Flights to Egal Airport to Resume in June

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The face lifting of Egal Impersonal Airport has entered its second and final phase.

The Egal International airport in Hargeisa is set to resume 100% operation in June this year after a month’s hiatus of constructions.

This was informed by aviation and air transport Minister Hon. Mohamud Hashi Abdi at Egal Airport where he also castigated opposition leaders alleged misappropriation of funds by his ministry.

While launching the final phase of construction activities the aviation minister said “we are very pleased to host members of the press during launch of the final phase of works at Egal Airport”

The city based international airport has been serving small crafts thus passengers using Berbera international airport since mid last year when construction begun

The face-lifting will see a new tower erected in addition to a lengthily run-way that will replace the current 2km once while has put in place in 1958

The aviation minister also said that parallel works at Berbera airport are going on smoothly and are expected to end on time.

The two international airports of Egal and Berbera have been undergoing modernization by Honoco Chinese Company courtesy of a $10m grant from the government and people of Kuwait.

In apparent reference to recent allegation of corruption within the aviation ministry Hon. Hashi said that NOT a single penny of the Kuwait funds has been misappropriated as records shall show on completion of the project.

A number of opposition leaders have accused the minister of corruption mainly due to the failure by his ministry to complete the Kuwaiti funded project months ago as planned.
