DJs will play the greatest chart-topping hits from 1960 to 2012 at an Ilkley social club this weekend in a charity night supporting an adventurer’s bid to raise money for an African maternity hospital.

The Charity Number Ones night at the Hollygarth, Leeds Road, on Saturday will help Christopher Stanfield’s mission to raise £100,000 for Edna Adan’s Maternity Hospital in Somaliland.

Christopher won plenty of support for the cause when he walked the Camino de Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route in Northern Spain last year.

Now he is preparing for a 2,000-mile trek across vast barren desert, land and sea from Port Sudan to the hospital in Somaliland As well as raising money for the hospital, he hopes to show North East Africa in new light, and highlight the health of the people of Somaliland, which is among the worst in Africa, with one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world. With the support of Ink Films, he will be recording the epic journey and creating a documentary.

All of the DJs taking part on Saturday night have offered their services for free.

They include Ben Sellars, Alan ‘Wilkie’ Wilkinson, Dominic Hanbidge, Jamie Priestner, Matthew Grimes, John Furniss, Martin Roe and Nick Babb via satellite.

Doors will open at 7pm at The Hollygarth as there will be a lot of music to fit in.

Many tickets, which must be bought in advance, have already been sold through friends and via Facebook.

Remaining tickets are available at The Yard, off Brook Street Crescent Court, on weekdays.

Tickets cost £5 each, and all the proceeds from the sales will go directly to the overseas charity.

People can still support the charity by donating a raffle prize for the night or sponsoring Christopher via the stanfields-somaliland.com website.
