Abdilahi Dayib Abdi Korse a student in Hargeisa was shot several times by a police officer at the city’s Kodbur police station in circumstances that are yet to receive official explanation.

According to reporter Abdisalam Abuhurayra of the head legs and abdomen injuries were inflicted to the youth as the perpetrating police officer tried to end a scuffle by prisoners.

The injured boy who was being investigated for membership of a youth gang was immediately rushed to the Hargeisa General Hospital where his life threatening wounds are being attended to.

Whether the perpetrating police officer was trying to end a prisoner’s scuffle or not the fact that he entered a cell full of prisoners while armed is cause for concern.

This fatal shooting comes in the heels of a similar one in the Somaliland capital where a 9 years old boy was shot to death by the Rapid Reaction Unit of the police and three others injured during a brawl for a contested piece of land.
