Somaliland: Danes to Increase Contents of Annual Development Envelope

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Danish Government is satisfied with the impact of its development package delivered over the years to Somaliland.
This was revealed by the Nairobi based envoy of Denmark Ambassador Geert Aagaard Andersen during a post president Silanyo meeting joint press briefing with Somaliland foreign minister Mohamed Behi Younis at the Hargeisa presidency.
The visiting Danish diplomatic team led by Amb Andersen had upon arrival held discussions related to the enhancement of bi-lateral relations with a Somaliland government team headed by President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo who was flanked by vice president Abdilahi Sayli and including FM Behi Younis, Planning minister Dr Saad Ali Shire and their presidency colleague Hirsi Haji Ali.
Terming relations with the government of Denmark as cordial and of worthy benefit to the country Foreign minister Behi Younis said of most import was the Danish input to the Somaliland Development Fund-SDF.
“Excellency Somalilanders appreciate your government’s lengthily intervention in the development of their country which is directly managed by the DANIDA office in the Somaliland capital of Hargeisa” said FM Behi
The foreign minister also divulged that the current visit which is a return one by the Nairobi Kenya based Danish envoy involved other objectives apart from monitoring the impact of his government’s development aid said,
“Amb Anderson is here to discuss issues related to development, forthcoming elections slated for mid 2015 and the internationally sanctioned talks between Somaliland and neighbouring Somalia”

While informing that the development partnership between Somaliland and Denmark was in good shape Ambassador Geert Aagaard Andersen revealed that satisfied authorities in Copenhagen are going to increase the contents of annual aid envelope availed to both the local administration and civil society organizations.
By the time of going to press the Danish diplomatic team was in Berbera pursuing avenues of increased intervention in the livestock export sector which has been a major beneficiary of support from Copenhagen as well as studying the fishing industry for enhancement of the ongoing input by a number of INGO’s from Denmark .
The visit by Ambassador Geert Aagaard Andersen comes in the heels of one in August by the Danish trade and development minister Mogens Jensen who upon conclusion of official duties said that the Government and people of Denmark are impressed by democratic developments and Economic growth garnered by Somaliland.
