Somaliland: Court Martial Issues Death Sentence

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – a police officer is to pay for the killing of a civilian with his life.

The Military Court has sentenced a former Burao police officer to death while a colleague is to serve five years imprisonment.

According to a statement released by military Judge-Advocate Hasan Aden Sugule the court martial sentenced the former police officers for the killing of a civilian in Burao town

The Judge Advocate statement read:

A military court martial has sentenced a former police officer Mohamed Hussein Dirir, to death after he was found guilty of killing Mr. Khadar Abshir Ahmed, a civilian in Burao town Togdheer region on 11 May 2012.

An accomplice, also a former police officer Ahmed Warsame Hirsi has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for abetting the crime.

These sentences were imposed in conformity with Article 434 section 195 of the Forces discipline law.
