Somaliland: Civilian Killing Soldier Sentenced to Death

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – A former army soldier is to die for the wanton killing of a civilian in Hargeisa.

A statement released by the Somaliland Armed forces court martial which was signed by its Judge Advocate Colonel Mohamed Hasan Farah informed that serviceman Da’ar Ali Ibrahim has been sentenced to death for the offence of killing a civilian in the streets of Hargeisa the capital of Somaliland on 18th May 2014.
“Former Serviceman Da’ar Ali Ibrahim has been dishonourably discharged from serve and subsequently sentenced to death after having been found guilty of murder ” read the statement.
According to the Judge Advocate the court made its dual judgment of Dishonourably discharge and death sentence after having been fully satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the death of late 25 years old Abdirizaq Mahmud Ahmed son of Asha Ali lost his life as a result of a premeditated brutal act by ex-serviceman Da’ar Ali Ibrahim.
All criminal acts by members of the three branches of the Somaliland armed forces (Army, Police and Prisons) are prosecuted at the military Court Martial at their respective bases anywhere in the country.
