Somaliland: Change of Guard at National TV Station

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The state TV station has official turned into an independent parastatal.

In a ceremony presided over by information deputy minister Hon Abdilahi Mohamed Dahir ‘Ukuse’ the new Somaliland national TV station Director Mr. Khadar Ali Gas officially assumed office.

While thanking the outgoing Director Mr. Suleiman Duhul, the Deputy Minister Ukuse urged the incoming director to not only maintain but also enhance on current developments. He further asked that conducive working relations with other departments be maintained since the TV station is a vital part of the ministry

During the hand-over the outgoing director Mr. Ahmed Suleiman Duhul who leaves the TV station to become the presidential press officer briefed ceremony participants who included members of parliament, ministry officials and employees on prevalent status at the station.

While thanking the stations and entire ministry staff for support given him during his 2 years tenure, Mr. Duhul also urged them to accord the new director similar support thus sustainable service provision.

While addressing the ceremony Legislator Ali Mohamed Hasan ‘Ali Marehan’ asked, the new management and staff of the TV station to uphold professionalism thus ensure quality services to the public were availed.

“The state TV has the very arduous task of not only providing information but establishing understanding and cordial relations between the government and citizens,” Said MP Ali Marehan

The Director General at the ministry of information Mr. Abdirashid Jibril Yusuf commended the outgoing Director for his indefatigable efforts that have seen the TV station transform from a Hargeisa only station to one viewed worldwide.

The new Director Khadar Ali Gas promised to uphold professionalism at the station further informed that he would closely work with all cadres of staff.

The handover ceremony also ushers in the newly President Silanyo established independent management body for the state TV station which though stationed at the ministry of information compound will operate as a separate entity apart from policy which it will share with its former parent ministry.
