Somalilandsun – A delegation from the UK is expected in the coming days to visit the former deputy security minister Abdullah Aboker in Mandhera prison. The delegation aims to find out more about the news revealed by Mr Aboker accusing Somaliland government members of working with extremist elements in the country. Mr Aboker was arrested on May 30 , 2014 for making the allegations.

Reports indicate that the British delegation will include members of MI6 and diplomats who are interested in getting additional information about the Islamic extremism within the government cabinet raised by the former deputy security minister.

The deputy minister who has been relieved of his government post earlier was accused of spreading rumours about the government. He said in a televised interview that terrorists worked within the government and that the administration of President Silanyo was aware of that. He said : “that religious extremists were behind the current unrest in the country”. He named Ikhwaan Al Muslimiin , islaax , Jihad and Al Shaab Islamic groups as being behind the dispute within the ruling Kulmiye party.”
Country background :
The Republic of Somaliland, formerly British Somaliland Protectorate, became Independent on June 26, 1960. It merged with the former Italian Colony of Somalia when it too became Independent on July 1, 1960. This merger was, however, doomed from the start because of economical, cultural and administrative differences and problems that made themselves felt very soon after the union of these two Somali Nations.
Regretably, it took a long and protracted civil war between the people of Somaliland and the troops of the former Dictator Siyad Barre, for the sovereignty of Somaliland to be finally restored on May 18, 1991.
