HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Director General in the of civil aviation ministry Mr. Omar Abdillahi Adan has rubbished allegations appearing in news item in our story- that had revealed the plight of landless natives residing in land adjacent to airport premises as exaggerated & that his minister was taken out of context.
Mr. Omar Adan said that no body plans to evict the poor landless adding that genuine occupiers of the land shall be provided with an alternate land and in case of unavailability of one, a monetary compensation equivalent to the current market value of the property that the Government plans in using to expand the runaway in the second phase of expansion which is to start in due time.
The Director General was briefing the media in a press conference held in his office when he stated that grievances were raised by not genuine land occupiers insisting that the Government does not plan to forcefully expel poor landless citizens that were living therein since time immemorial without following the established laws governing public acquisition of private land.
Mr. Omar Adan also clarified that Government has expanded most airport since coming to power in the last 3 & half years ago apparently in reaction to media reports that his boss, the aviation minister was in advanced plans to forcefully remove a number of landless citizens currently squatting at land owned by Egal International airport in Hargeisa
