HARGEISA (somalilandsun) – Continued insinuations that Somaliland is part of the Federal government of Somalia based in Mogadishu is nothing but an absurdity
This was stated by the Somaliland minister of Trade and Investment Eng Hussein Aden Egge “Hussein Deyr” during a press conference in Hargeisa where he shunned alleged plans by the authorities in Mogadishu to seek legal arbitration over a contract issued to an international company for development and management of the main Somaliland port of Berbera.
“Why would the Somalia government be concerned over internal issues pertinent to Somaliland” wondered the trade minister.
The government of Somaliland recently signed a Berbera port management and development contract worth over $400m with DP world an international port management company owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates.
Following the signing in Dubai witnessed by the Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo and UAE prime minister Mohamed bin Rashid Al-Makhtoum the government of Somalia’s ministry of ports issued a statement of intent to oppose the agreement via international court arbitration.
Somaliland foreign minister Dr Saad Ali Shire and DP World chair Sultan Ahmed bin Suleiyman sing the Berbera port contract in DubaiVisibly in a wonderment over the alleged intent to pursue legal arbitration the minister Hussein Deyr said “It is obvious that authorities in Somalia are in a daydream since Somaliland is a sovereign country that does not require nor want permission from Mogadishu to conduct internal affairs”
The trade and investment minister also took the opportunity to provide what he called puppet authorities in Mogadishu with a comparison of the two Hargeisa and Mogadishu based governments and legislatures
Said he, “How can the appointed government and or parliament in Mogadishu currently propped up by foreign governments and agencies, and in control of its capital in daytime while terrorist have night and 24/7 rural areas control aspire to manage affairs of the democratically elected government and legislature of Somaliland where peace and security is availed citizens all year round”
In conclusion the minister of trade and investment Eng Hussein Deyr told the government of Somalia to engage the republic of Somaliland in good neighborly activities geared towards improving livelihoods as opposed to never ending interferences with each big or tiny step authorities in Hargeisa take towards uplifting economic development and living standards for its people.
In the meantime the Somaliland council of ministers overwhelmingly approved the DP World contract during a session chaired by Vice President Abdirahman Sayli at the presidency in Hargeisa.
Somaliland council of ministers gave the DP world contract to develop Berbera port 100 approval The approval that facilitates the government submitting the contract to parliament for ratification came after the council was briefed by planning minister Ali Shombe who was part of the delegation headed by president Silanyo during the signing in Dubai.
