journalist Hanad Ali Guleid in Mogadishu

Somalilandsun- Goobjoog Television news producer was Saturday morning kidnapped by hooded men in unclear circumstances outside in the outskirts of Mogadishu.
Initial reports from his family indicate Mr. Guled had received threats from unknown people. Guled was actively involved in the drought relief campaigns under the banner, Media for Aid, an outfit he had recently co-founded with some colleagues.
Family sources and his colleagues say the threats involved his Media for Aid campaigns. The family source notes that Mr. Guled’s last communication shortly after his kidnap provided little information indicating he had been locked in a small room.
“Mr. Guled’s kidnap is yet another stain in the conscience of the media industry in Somalia and adds to disturbing trends of concerted efforts at silencing journalists determined to pursuing the truth and standing in the gap for the voiceless in Somalia,” Goobjoog Media Group director Hassan Mohamud said.
Goobjoog Media Groups condemns the kidnapping of Mr. Guled and unequivocally calls for his unconditional release.
